On Saturdays it is home to Portobello Road Market, one of London's notable street markets, known for its second-hand clothes and antiques, and for the setting of one of the scenes in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. This street is famous all over the world is home to one of the largest antique markets in the world. Portobello Road specializes in all types of jewelry, art and silverware, as well as vintage clothing, curios and more. The market is alwayscrowded.

En su origen, Portobello Road fue un mercado de fruta fresca en el siglo XIX; no fue hasta 1960 que empezaron a instalarse los anticuarios que hoy llenan la calle.
El mercado ha sido la inspiración de una canción de Cat Stevens y el escenario de una toma clave de la película de 1971 "Bedknobs and Broomsticks", de Angela Lansbury. También fue el marco de la famosa película Notting Hill con Hugh Grant y Julio Roberts. De hecho la tienda donde el personaje de Hugh Grant trabaja es conocida en el mercadillo como Notting Hill bookshop.
